Virginia Avenue Construction
Starting on or after Monday, February 4, construction crews will be closing one block of Virginia Avenue, from Merrill Street to Lexington Avenue, for 6 weeks. This will allow for faster, safer construction of the Red Line stations at this location.
All business access will remain open during this period!
Local traffic will be permitted to use Virginia Avenue between College and Fletcher Avenues to access all homes, apartments, and businesses, but will not be able to drive in or through the area marked as “Road Closed” in the map below.
Virginia Avenue thru traffic should use College Avenue / Fletcher Avenue as a northbound detour and East Street / McCarty Street as a southbound detour during this closure.
The Indianapolis Cultural Trail will remain open, but the eastside sidewalk will be closed between Merrill and Lexington. Pedestrians and bicyclists are encouraged to use the Cultural Trail for safe access.
IndyGo bus service will be detoured between Fletcher and McCarty. Drivers are encouraged to heed all signs and flaggers to safeguard workers, drivers and pedestrians along the construction route.
