Temporary Virginia Ave Closure at Woodlawn Begins March 18

Week of March 18, 2019.

  • Pavement patching and resurfacing will take place at locations along Virginia Ave beginning on or after March 20 and lasting approximately two weeks.
  • A short section of Virginia Avenue (less than one block) will be closed for approximately one week beginning on or after March 20 just north of Woodlawn Avenue. Access to all businesses, residences, and other properties will always be maintained.
  • A short section of Virginia Avenue (less than one block) will be closed for approximately one week beginning on or after March 20 just south of New Jersey Streets. Access to all businesses, residences, and other properties will always be maintained.
  • Shelby Street will be closed for up to 4 hours just north of Southern Ave on April 1 to allow crews to set steel at the Garfield Park stations.
  • Short term (3-4 hour) closures of Virginia Avenue will be necessary to allow crews to set steel at each of the stations. Please be alert for temporary detours around these sites.

Virginia Avenue

  • Virginia Avenue is currently closed for approximately one block north of Merrill Street to facilitate station construction. Access to all businesses, residences, and other properties will always be maintained. The Cultural Trail will remain open through construction. This segment of roadway will open again by the end of March. Please refer to here for more information.

Shelby Street

  • Station work will continue at stations on Shelby St at E. Pleasant Run Parkway North Drive and Southern Ave, with traffic shifted around the work zone.
  • Asphalt patching on Shelby will be completed by the end of this week.
